Ikay Okay!!!

Posted by Daniel^_^Chin

I know it sounds so wrong to pronounce IKEA as IKAY(Eye-Kay), but that's what my lecturer taught me! And isn't it fun to pronounce the names of stores wrongly? (Carrefour anyone???)

Yesterday was the registration day for FABE students. So there I was taking the bus to school and realised that I should've gone earlier. I can't believe that after going through that painful process 3 times I didn't even drag my own self out of bed 6.00 am in the morning and be the first to enter the college. The Hall of Fame(ahem, Shame) was full of students and most importantly, the counter I was supposed to line up was hidden at the corner, with a serpentine line of students ending nowhere. I was squinting my eyes trying to figure out where should I line up as the line intertwines with another counter's.

How unsystematic! The lecturers could've done something knowing the way Malaysians lineup.

Nevertheless, the line was the least of the problem. The student registering(Chris), was at the counter for what felt like an hour before the poor fellow behind him could scream "finally!" Apparently our new year leader was new in using the crazy program for registering.

Did I mention that I was sitting on the row of seats with the label "For Parents Only" beside the line?

And it was during that time that I resorted to my last years' plan: register when the semester starts! (How smart ;D)

The problem is that there probably are a lot more 'smart' students like me too.

After checking out the timetable and waiting for Rozan to finish his stuff, we went to IKEA!!!

I needed a chair and some other stuff, so Farhan, Iwas, Saras, Rozan and Me headed to IKEA in Iwas' car.

Stuff that I bought--->

Toiletry bag that can be hung

Floor Mat

Laundry Basket

SNILLE Swivel Chair

And the total was around RM80++, less than RM100!

Still eyeing the Drafting Table though...

After the exhausting journey, I cleaned my room again and it's officially a complete room now.

Let's hope that I won't be moving again.

PS: The food in IKEA was okay I guess. But the view of a lady flashing was 'better'

I know what Daniel did this CNY...

It's still New Year, but everyone is busy working and the last day to celebrate and enjoy the final bits of CNY spirits would only be the coming Chap Goh Meh, or the last day of CNY. Oh, perhaps you would see me throwing oranges at the nearby river. *shrugs* (Who says guys can't throw oranges? Gender equivalence FTW!)

My silly edit: Only if girls actually pick those oranges. If not...hmm, I sense a great prank on the way! *evil laughs

Anyway, here's a recap of what I did during this festival.

I shall start from a few days before CNY. Like what everyone said, the joy of CNY is actually in the anticipation of it, not the day itself, although I do like receiving red packets, and not to mention those wicked food!

So it started off with spring cleaning, always the dirty work first :S. Cleaned my room and threw away my favourite little pillow since I was a child due to it's unsightly yellow stains(I don't know what those are). And my mum found some lizard eggs among my files! Gosh I've never seen lizard eggs before and they looked like......eggs. Guess I can't really keep my room clean since I'll be back to college.

And of course, I made cookies. Yes, you heard right, cookies! They are Green Pea Cookies(no idea what exactly they're called).

The mixture

Cutting the paste into little pieces

Into the oven!

Viola!

Packed into little auspicious jars

Then it was Chinese New Year Eve, an important day as it's the day of reunion with family and friends for those who work far from home. It's also a day when the peninsula might tilt a little as kampungs become highly populated and KL is deserted.

This year's Reunion Dinner came earlier than usual. We ate around 5 something because the food was all ready.

And of course, it's not CNY if you don't do something against the law (you know what I mean :D). And many guilty things I did, like not buckling up...

From Kee's World

"On the first day of New Year my true love gave to me, a day full of fire-crackers!" Yes, woke up and heard fire-crackers and drumming opposite of my house. This is one of the days when I'm not entirely annoyed by those sounds. And like what we always did in previous years, we went to my Grandpa's house - the first visiting! And of course the yearly lion dance performance. But I gotta admit that the whole thing wasn't even qualified as a performance, more like an unaesthetic ritual with obnoxious drumming that passed off as the lion's grumbling.

Ready to grab the veggie?

Mummy Lioness: How many times I have to tell you not to eat dirty food on the floor!

Finally, a rather 'epic' photo :D

Nothing to do this day except eating and playing cards with my cousins. Thank God no one was playing Gameboy!

Went to Ipoh in the afternoon to visit my grandparents on my mum's side. And guess what we had for dinner? Pizza Hut and KFC. And this was what I saw on the receipt:

KFC Cockman? Did they use this all along? How funny :D

After the first two days, it's time to go visiting friends! Yik Chen had a steamboat party at his house and we got to met many old friends.

Can't seem to get fat after tucking in any food I could lay my hands on, and soft drinks too. You see, it was my plan to refill some fat before burning them. Can't believe I'm going back after all this to get skinnier again.

Time to open the red packets and count the money! $o$ The more you keep them (in a red packet), the more you'll get later!!!

Another song that I want to share.

A really touching and meaningful one...

"We are very proud to present to you our video for "Save You".   What originally inspired this song was Pierre's brother's battle with cancer. About 3 years ago, Jay was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphatic cancer. After 2 years of extremely difficult chemotherapy treatments, he learned that the cancer was gone for now and that he was in remission. After being told he had a 50-50 chance to come out of this alive, he had won his battle.

Because this happened to someone so close to us, we felt that, as a band, we had to do something to help.  We had to get involved and use our voice to make a difference in the fight against cancer.

We wanted this video to tell his story and the ones of all cancer survivors. We want to show how strong people can be when facing adversity and hardship and how resilient the human mind and body can be. We wanted to relay a message of hope, survival and courage.

With the assistance of iTunes, Lava/Atlantic, and Warner/Chappell Music, all proceeds from each downloaded sale will be distributed to cancer charities around the world, through the Simple Plan Foundation.   "Save You" - which is also found on our  self-titled third studio album "Simple Plan"  - can be purchased on iTunes here:
U.S. | Canada

We wish to send out a special thank you to everyone involved in the creation of this video, the production crew, the Leucan Association, and all the survivors that took time out of their busy schedules to be part of this very special message.  You are an inspiration to us all!

We hope that with your assistance, you can help us beat cancer.

Thank you
Simple Plan"

(And why am I addicted to songs for cancer???)

I dedicate this song to everyone reading the blog, my friends and family

Never give up in anything you do!

Here's the lyrics------->

Save You - Simple Plan

Take a breath

I pull myself together

Just another step until I reach the door

You’ll never know the way it

tears me up inside to see you

I wish that I could tell you something

and take it all away

Sometimes I wish I could save you

And there’s so many things

that I want you to know

I won’t give up till it’s over

If it takes you forever I want you to know

When I hear your voice

It's drowning into whispers

You're just skin and bones

There’s nothing left to take

No matter what I do I

can’t make you feel better

If only I could find the answer

To help me understand

Sometimes I wish I could save you

And there’s so many things

that I want you to know

I wont give up till it’s over

If it takes you forever I want you to know

That if you fall, stumble down

I’ll pick you up off the ground

If you lose faith in you

I’ll give you strength to pull through

Tell me you won't give up cause

I’ll be waiting if you fall

Oh you know I’ll be there for you

(Ahahaha)

If only I could find the answer

To take it all away

Sometimes I wish I could save you

And there’s so many things

that I want you to know

I wont give up till it's over

If it takes you forever I want you to know (Oooh)

I wish I could save you

I want you to know (Ohohh)

I wish I could save you (ohh)

Well, it works for money too, if you want. Just tweak some lines......

2008 is a nut!

Posted by Daniel^_^Chin

Well, I hope it's not too late to write about my 2008 as many people have already done that. This is gonna be "2008 in a nutshell"---an alternative title....or "2008 is nuts!"

2008 was sure a very very dramatic year for me. In fact I think it's the most dramatic year to date(not to mention those political news that got more and more juicy). Lot's and lot's of things happened, and I've learn from each and everyone of them.

At the end of last year, I was chatting with my best buddy Wai Hong as we couldn't sleep. We talked about how our lives have changed since we left our warm, cosy and sweet little innocent town and enter the evil and harsh world--the real world. I was surprised at how similar our encounters were. I guess everyone will go through those things at certain point.

But I was a good moment as we got to learn from each other. I wish I wasn't wrong by saying that we have to protect ourselves when we are out alone. Of course there's nothing wrong with protecting yourselves, but sometimes I found out that you have to protect protect(something like Colgate double protection?), and no, the thing on your mind is not what I'm talking about. Sometimes I had to be selfish, and when I realised that, I got all emo o.O. Well at least it wasn't as bad as you think. When I'm back to my friends and family I'm back to normal. Sometimes I do wonder if I have multi-personality, nah that might freak everybody out.

Noticed a slight decline in studies, maybe it was too little stress. So here a little resolution for 2009, think about nothing but studies!!! But that's sad, because we(me and Wai Hong) promised each other to have girlfriends exactly a year later. We both know we have high expectations on the opposite sex and it's not gonna work. So let's see what happens :D. On the contrary, it was really dramatic to find out all your friends being sxxxs and change partners like...everyday?(sorry I was exaggerating, but you get the idea)

Well, and there was the realisation of the importance of money in this (TMTH) world. It started with living by myself, so every financial decision was on me. Living around KL is like burning you money, unlike my hometown where money hardly goes anywhere. Then there's the foreseen economy crisis(yes I knew it was coming! The world is......), which makes money more......hated. Oh and did I mention I worked as part timer? It was fun but exhausting :D

Some trivia :D

1. Favourite movie of 2008
The Dark Knight (Heath Ledger rocks!....in heaven <(nn)>  )

2. Favourite song
I'm yours (I know I know, but it's not over-rated, you just got bored hearing it)
*ps: love Rihanna too :P

3. Favourite book
The yellow Reader given by Ms Zatur(you know I'm being sarcastic)

It's the Five People You Meet In Heaven by Mitch Albom (such inspiring...)

4. Favourite news
Someone got shoe-ed??? Lol

5. Most disturbing thing that happened to my body
Pimples...arrrghhh!!!!

6. Favourite person
Myself (no points for guessing it right :P)

7. Favourite TV show
For English - Pushing Daisies (Brian Fuller is a genius)
Heroes is sooooo disappointing

Cantonese - Moonlight Resonance

8. Favourite food
Can't think of a particular one...what about pork from BBQ Plaza? (No offense to muslims)

9. Favourite drink
Blood...my arse! (If someone mentions the word "Twilight" again, I'll drink his/hers)
Mocha is still my favourite :P (I......e....ya......will always love you.......woo......oooo......eee....I.....)

In a nutshell 2008 has been a nice year for me, no bad things(I'm optimistic so "bad" means bad bad). I discovered more on myself and other people around me, learned more in my studies(always grateful for that), moved to a new house(I'm moving again =.=", once each sem!), met new friends(some really weird), worked in Parkson, had a good time during festivals like Halloween, enjoyed my life and learned to love myself more(it's not vain). Cried because I was shocked(really shocked), laughed because I was happy, got pissed sometimes but my EQ saved me(I'm getting a tad more irritating now).

Finally, thank God, my family, my friends, my housemates, my lecturers, the strange strangers I met, my Appie, my books, my assignments for living through 2008 with me!!!

2009!!! Ya better be good to me!

Superstar Libra (Day 1 - 11/12/08)

Posted by Daniel^_^Chin

*This post is loooooooong o.O

Started our journey from Teluk Intan to Port Klang at around 8.00 am(we had to check-in at 12). Ate our breakfast in a coffee-shop before we continued the journey.

On the way!!!

Reached West Port, Port Klang earlier than we've expected (thanks to the maps, and no thanks to the unsurprisingly bad Malaysian road signs).

Terminal Star Cruises

Saw the ship when we arrived and thought it was huge because of the distance.

Wow, that's huge!!

But apparently we were wrong. After obtaining our cruise access cards (which act as our ICs, cabin keys, and credit cards on the ship), we proceeded to the port. When we looked at the ship up close, the third largest ship under the company wasn't that huge actually :S

Err, fishing boat? :P

Not to compare it to Titanic, but it does look small from here...

Gotta identify the small boats up there and run towards them as soon as you hear the siren!

Everyone had to take a picture with a mascot and a pair of weirdly dressed dancers before boarding the ship.

Photos, key chains, and fridge magnets up for sale that my sis took (Shh...we were not allowed...). I did not buy any because one photo costed 12 SGD (Singapore Dollar!!! Current exchange rate: 2.4) and one tiny key chain and fridge magnet were 10 SGD each! By the way, everything on the ship was in SGD, so imagine what could I buy...=.=.

My elder sister thinks the mascot is a chicky, my second sister thinks it's a duck, and I think it's a bird. What do you think?

Straight away went to our cabins after boarding the ship. They were located at Deck 2, one for my parents and one for us. Oh my word, Deck 2?!!! My first reaction was:

"We are the first to die when the ship sinks!"

Not that I didn't know where we were sleeping already. But still, I couldn't help but bitch a little :P. You have no choice but to pay the price right? I mean, you've gotta pay the big "price" when you only paid a small price right? (Does this make sense to you?)

Room 2116

Weird picture on the wall

Amy checking out the hairdryer

Small TV on the shelves

Looked at the Star Navigator that we have to see what activities we could join. But before that, we had to check their food first. There are three inclusive restaurants: Four Seasons(western fine dining), Ocean Palace(chinese cuisine), and Mariners Buffet(international buffet), each has a different theme for dinner everyday.

We chose the Mariner's Buffet first and made our way to the rear of the ship. There were two entrances, one at the far left and the other at the far right. Since we came from the left side so it was natural to enter from the left entrance. I saw a huge word "EXIT" on the door and my dysfunctioning brain thought it was an alien word. Therefore, the whole family entered the restaurant from the EXIT and proceeded to the plates and cutlery, all the while shaking our butts and thought nothing was wrong. Fortunately(thank God), we were lining up beside the entrance and saw people queuing outside to get their cards swiped before entering the restaurant. It was only then that we realised we entered without swiping out cards, and feeling rather embarrassed, we quickly exited and came back from the entrance.

Everything went smoothly after that and we got our first ever meal on the cruise. Not many choices actually and the food wasn't really good. Can't recall the exact food but there were rice, chicken, vegetables, fruits, desserts like cakes and drinks like coffee, tea, and orange juice as always.

My food (didn't finish it)

Me and my sis "enjoying" the food

During the lunch, we saw Superstar Virgo coming to the port and it was huge! It's the biggest ship under the company.

Superstar Virgo (Why is it Virgo not Sagittarius?)

After the lunch, time to check our navigator! (I like how they called it navigator, so...piraty, or sailory) There were a ship tour and a Christmas Jumbled Words at 2.00 pm, but frankly I could explore the whole ship myself in 15 minutes, therefore off we went to the Galaxy of the Stars.

The name of the game says it all(isn't it obvious?). The host, Godie from the Philippines would show us a card with scrambled letters and we were supposed to unscramble them to form a word related to Christmas in a 10 seconds. There were a total of 15 words to be figured out such as christmas tree, candies, Santa Claus, reindeer, The Three Kings, Bethlehem, mistletoe etc. Five of us shared a piece of answer sheet,  sadly we only managed to complete 10 words. In other words, we lost :(.

But the price wasn't good so I didn't care. After that, we had basic ballroom dance class with coordinator Douglas all the way from Brazil! (Woot, ballroom dancing! :D) Me, my father and my sisters all went up. My mum sat back to take pictures. And seriously, my camera was turning into a bitch, time to change a new one I shall say!

Galaxy of the Stars

Stage of Galaxy of the Stars

I like the way they arrange the chairs and couches

Move your hips!

Overall it was a fun lesson, after that we were required to couple up, and it was more fun! We had to twist and turn all the while having to avoid stepping on others' toes. After that Douglas told us there'll be a intermediate class tomorrow so we had to practice!

After that, there was a Cruise Variety Show at 4.00pm. Since it's a variety show, there were many different kinds of performances like singing, dancing, and even funny acts from the wacky performers.

When the show began, the ship started to sail too. After the variety show, my sisters went to the deck to take pictures and I went back to the cabin with a board game that I borrowed. Unfortunately nobody wanted to play it so we bathed and prepared for dinner.

We chose to go to Four Seasons, the western fine dining restaurant and of course, they have dress code =.=.

*If you don't see any pictures for certain food above, that's because nobody ordered them

Everybody ordered Grilled Chicken Salad because it sounded nice, and in fact, it was quite nice (8/10). My Lamb Broth wasn't bad (7.5/10), so was my mum's Cream of Asparagus (6.5/10). Dory Teriyaki (5.5/10) was okay but my sister's Grilled Chicken Breast (7.5/10) was better. I didn't really like Mandarin Bavoroise (5/10), and the ice-cream was no Ben & Jerry's or HäagenDazs (I kinda thought it was Nestlé's).

Overall I give the dinner a 7.5 out of 10 :), at least it was better than the lunch. But the service wasn't really good. (Well, I'm picky :P)

After dinner, it's party time!!! There's something called Call My Bluff at 9.15 pm. Basically it's like a game show. There are four liars in the Liar's Club: Hendrix, Godie, Herel, and Hari, and they are the crazy cruise staffs. A rare word would be given, and these liars had to give their own definitions of the word, only one would be correct. Four people from the audience would be chosen to participate and they had to decide who was telling the truth.

First word - Crapulence (The thing that crossed my mind was this word is a whole lotta crap!)
Definition - A sickness caused by excessive drinking or eating (And I was like, "Isn't that flatulence?" Lol!)

Anyway, these liars had their own style in giving crap, Hendrix (draped in christmas light bulbs and wearing devil's horns) is good at giving dictionary styled definition that could be mistaken as the truth. Godie was always talking about his girlfriend and his likes to find out the definition by determining the root word (Therefore crapulence means a person full of crap =.=). Herel has many ex-boyfriends all around the world, and claimed that she just loves men. And Hari is a grand-mamma's boy, and he learned all the words from his grandmother, who always tells the truth.

Second word - Tittup
Definition - A lively, capering manner of moving or walking; a prance, this word comes from the imitation of the sound of horse hooves.

Third word - Blenophobia

They wanted singles to go up, and of course, no adults in their right minds would admit they are single. So all four teens went up, including me =.=".

The correct definition was supposedly "The fear of slime", and I got it wrong because it chose Hari's answer, which was the fear of mother-in-laws (Pantheraphobia)

Here's where things got tricky...

You see, the correct answer was "The fear of slime", or that's what everyone ass-u-me-d. I went online to check, and BOOM! Blenophobia(or belonephobia) is the fear of pins and needles, and the peer(can't resists to use some Philipino slang :P) of slime is BleNNophobia! Wow, tricky isn't it?

A blurry pic as prove (how good a proof is it =.=") Although it's blocked, you can make out that the letter before 'n' was actually an 'e'(can't be another 'n'), and the letter they were showing was 'Blenophobia'

Okay enough of Sherlock Holmes!

Fourth word - can't remember! =.="
Definition - A slap by the bishop during confirmation ceremony.

People start guessing, and you might get prizes! Post a comment if you know.

Final word - Dynomania (Hmm...my favourite word among them)
Definition - a sudden urge to dance (An the crazy Hari started dancing Bhangra)

Although at first I thought it was "crazy over throwing explosives into fire", or something like that. (That'd probably be Dynamania instead)

After this game show we had another party called "Hollywood to Bollywood", were the audience were asked to go on stage and dance. Some of them were really funny and it was fun to watch.

This post is so long I hope it doesn't bore you guys.

That's pretty much day 1! Stay tune for the next day!

And please forgive the fact that I took a week to complete a day (blogging I mean).
